Support A Second Chance
The parents are even perpetuating hatred between siblings. How scary would it be to fear your own brother or sister? Sadly, many of these children start believing that they are witches and that they deserve to be treated in this inhumane manner. They start blaming their own sibling to avoid being accused of witchcraft themselves. We cannot blame these children for acting this way when they are following the example of adults. This video was taken in the Democratic Republic in Congo, but this epidemic occurs throughout Africa.
This is Mercy Frank, she is 12 years old, "her mother bathed her in acid because a prophet claimed she was possessed by witchcraft." Read more about her story and others at http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/15033410-akwa-ibom-childwitches-still-endangered-species (July 21, 2013)
Help children like her overcome this tragedy. Donate today with whatever you can. No gift is ever too small when you have nothing.
Isn't he beautiful? Wouldn't it be nice if all children had that big smile? It would. Unfortunately, many children in Africa live in fear because they are believed to be witches and wizards. I know its 2013, but in some societies witchcraft is real and it affects families. Sadly, the weakest group in society, our children, are blamed for the misfortunes in their homes, families and communities. There are organizations that rescue these children and provide them with shelter, food, clothes, etc. These non profits need our help to continue their valuable mission. One remarkable organization is based in Nigeria. It is called CRARN (Child's Right and Rehabilitation Network). It needs out support
to continue to rescue and shelter these children. I have created this blog to spread awareness of these issues and show our support. I have also founded a fundraiser A Second Chance to collect funds and supplies for the children.
